A weekend to remember in Como
This year’s trip to the Synlab Lake Como Half Marathon had an extra-special purpose: celebrating NHRC founder James’ 40th birthday. With the race taking place on 7 December, the very day of his birthday, the perfect plan came together. A group from the club packed their bags, laced up their trainers, and headed to Italy to mark the milestone in true NHRC style: by running 21.1 km together.
What followed was a weekend full of energy, laughter, and the kind of shared experience that makes this club more than just a place to run. Trading cold London streets for crisp Italian winter sunshine, the team arrived in Como ready to celebrate, support, and make some unforgettable memories.
A Destination Race Done Right
From the moment the group gathered in Como, the sense of camaraderie was unmistakable. Destination races always bring something special, the shared meals, the pre-race rituals, the collective excitement, and this trip was no exception. With plenty of pasta, winter sunshine, and laughter, the team settled into race weekend with ease.
Race Day: Smiles, Grit and Gorgeous Views
On Sunday morning, the team lined up along the lake, surrounded by runners from across Europe. The course, winding through picturesque towns and along the water’s edge, provided constant motivation, although the occasional hill reminded everyone that this wasn’t just a sightseeing jog.
Among the group were runners tackling their first ever half marathon, others chasing personal bests, and some simply embracing the joy of running in a new place. By the time the finish line came into view, the results told a story of hard work and determination:
First-timers who proved to themselves that they absolutely belong in the 21.1 km club, showing the payoff of focused winter training
Strong, steady performances from seasoned runners
And, of course, a whole lot of smiles and support, both on and off the course
The Power of Running Together
What truly stood out all weekend was the team spirit. Whether it was sharing gels at the start line, cheering each other down the final kilometre, or raising a well-earned toast afterwards, the sense of community was everywhere.
These trips reflect exactly what NHRC is about, creating memorable experiences, celebrating every runner’s journey, and building friendships that make training and racing so much more meaningful.
Until the Next Adventure
A huge congratulations to everyone who represented NHRC in Como, and a very happy 40th birthday to James, whose milestone brought the team together for such a brilliant weekend.
The lake may have been calm, but the NHRC spirit was anything but.
Here’s to more races, more miles, and more unforgettable weekends together.
See you at the next starting line!
